Based on the book "Sentenced to Life" by Attila Komaromi, the documentary sheds light on the period of the Gulags between 1944 and 1956. After the collapse of the Hitler regime, the Soviet Union deported hundreds of thousands of young people from their liberated countries to Siberia - accused of alleged counter-revolutionary activities. They were free labor to build the multinational state. Those sentenced from 10 to 25 years in a labor camp, were forced to do hard labor every day in inhumane conditions. Most did not survive the ordeal.

The film portrays the fate of some of the survivors, which is exemplary for hundreds of thousands whose suffering was immeasurable and remains indelible for all. The story sheds light on the historical background of this post-war period, which has been repressed for decades and in part unexplored, and deals with the current process of coming to terms with the past.
