A woman is found dead in an apartment in Lucerne. For Reto Flückiger and his colleague Liz Ritschard, everything initially looks like a jealousy drama. The search is on for the dead woman's lover: Thomas Behrens, who works as an IT expert for a private bank in Lucerne. Unexpectedly, Behrens turns himself in to the authorities and claims not to have killed his lover. He claims to be in possession of explosive account data and says he is being followed and that they want to kill him.

Flückiger and Ritschard do not know whether to believe Behrens' wild story or the husband of the killed woman. The latter testifies that he saw Behrens in the apartment immediately after the crime. A race against time begins that leads the investigators into the highest circles of the financial and political elite.
