The body of 14-year-old Amina Halter is found in the woods. Amina's family is a member of the Christian faith community "Circle of Grace". Her stepfather Beat took her mother Ursula and her little sister Julia off the street years ago and took them in. Kaspar Vogt, the biological father of the two children, is an outsider without a fixed abode. The day before Amina disappeared, he showed up at the Halters' home and forced his way into the house to celebrate Amina's birthday.
